I have a really annoying problem with windows vista's volume mixer.
When I am using Internet explorer and I open volume mixer from the system tray, there is no option to change Internet Explorer's volume. There used to be because I remember lowering it so I could hear JAWS when listening to music online. I need to raise the volume so I can listen to something without raising the JAWS volume at the same time. How do I restore the option to change it in volume mixer?
Hi,
I wouldn't say for certain that my idea would certainly help you, but here goes:
Applications wont sometimes appear in the volume mixer either because 1: they are not opened at the time when you want to change the volume of a specific application. or 2: you might be using that application on another sound card if you happen to have more than one.
At least that has been my observation in windows 7 with more than one card.
If you do happen to have more than one card and do not find the application you're looking for, in the volume mixer, there's like a split button and when pressed, you can choose the other card and if your application is opened at the time, you can then successfully increase/decrease the volume.
Hope I made sense and was able to help in some way.
Regards,
windows 7 and vista's volume mixer for me are really the same so don't fret about the windows 7 bit.
Its just that I had been using vista and now on to windows 7.
thanks for your help but I only have one sound card.
Hi,
did you try lowering the system sounds? that way it will also lower the volume for Internet explorer. At least it does for me here. and it doesn't affect jfw or any other volume I've set for an application.
Regards,
i'll try that, thanks.
My problem has been solved!
I've realised you have to hear a sound in Internet explorer before the aplication is recognised in the volume mixer. Because yesterday I was just browsing and not listening to/hearing things, Internet explorer did not show up.
Thanks for all your advice though, much appreciated.
